Several weeks ago myself, my brothers, their wives, and the grandchildren gave my parents a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party. We were all so excited about doing this for them and honoring them in such a special way! If you think about, in this day that we are living in and in the up coming years you probably won't see much of the 50th anniversary's.
We had secret meetings to plan the special event and switched emails among one another. As you may know, most of my family works in the same place and it's hard to keep things from one another. We are a pretty close family and we general share our lives with each other on a weekly basis and some more than others. I actually had to stop calling mom every day so I wouldn't slip up with the secret. We had to let dad in on the secret, to a degree, to keep him in town due to him taking trips out of town on business. We didn't want mom to have to celebrate the big 50th by herself. Of course Mom knowing her children well, knew something was up!
We had a great time planning and everyone seem to put in ideas and their comments. It's amazing the talents that come out just in your family when you all have a the same goal! From the planning, the invitations, the pictures, the food, the video's, the menu, the set up, the clean up, the serving, the decorating; everything went wonderful! And most important Mom and Dad were honored that day for being excellent role models for 50 years of happily ever after!
We were able to express to them the love, care, attention, and focus on them which they have done for us over the many, many years as their children, their grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Nate!
I guess around 80 people came to celebrate that day with us! It was great to talk with other's about Mom and Dad's lives together and how it all got started. And it was great to see how God has blessed them in so many ways (especially with us children and grandchildren, ha-ha). Mom and Dad have been a huge blessing in my life and shaped me into who I am today. I thank them so much for being excellent parents who prayed for their children and raised them not only in a Christian home, but modeled that Christian walk on a daily basis even to this day!
Thanks Mom and Dad!
