Pomona Cotton Mill

Sometimes I like to ponder, when things are quiet and still

Of historical things that happened in and around Pomona Cotton Mill.

Hours of labor, they were lengthy; from early morning with a shrill

To waken those that slumbered at Pomona Cotton Mill.

Overseers were sometimes crabby, and often cross and very ill

To the workers that were faithful at the Pomona Cotton Mill.

In nineteen hundred and thirteen the Deputy Sheriff was killed

Murdered while on duty at Pomona Cotton Mill.

Mill houses were provided, of which some linger still

With very few conveniences at the Pomona Cotton Mill.

No electric lights available, kerosene lamps, they filled the bill

No bathroom was provided, buy a privy just down the hill.

Another historical service rendered, down the old street car hill

Where street cars were often, to and from Pomona Cotton Mill.

Within this village a cottage, a small house upon a hill

But to me it was a mansion at the Pomona Cotton Mill.

Streets were unkept and narrow, not many automobiles

Horses and wagons popular, at Pomona Cotton Mill.

The school building at Pomona, one room we tried to fill

With four grades combined together, at Pomona Cotton Mill.

Church services were inspiring, the pews not hard to fill

During a protracted meeting, at Pomona Cotton Mill.

Many bodies now are resting in a neglected cemetery across the hill

Once were employed and active at the Pomona Cotton Mill.

Many improvements have been made, many more are need still

In the Old Historical Village the Pomona Cotton Mill.

The sweat shop and condition in my mind they linger still

But thankful they are history of the Old Pomona Cotton Mill.

Many things now are different, but to me it is a thrill

To relate this true story about the Old Pomona Mill

Now I'm seeing a city, being prepared on Zion's Hill

With peace and joy unending, where there will be no Cotton Mill.
